The Issue Of Pregnancy Termination - 1215 Words

Pregnancy termination is a controversial and sensitive subject that has sparked many debates in the past five decades. It is a two-sided issue between life and death of the unborn child. Planned Parenthood (2017) reports that thirty percent of women in the United States terminate a pregnancy before reaching forty-five years of age. Abortion has been legal in the United States since Roe v. Wade, a 1973 landmark decision held that the Fourteenth Amendment’s right of personal privacy covered the woman’s choice to carry a child or not. Republican Administrations such as those of Former Presidents’ Ronald Raegan and George W. Bush have been tough on abortion rights and sparked anti-abortion movements (Joffe 2013). With a new republican†¦show more content†¦With Clinton cancelling the bill in the early nineties, President Bush later reintroduced it, adding more elements. â€Å"The Bush Administration added still more teeth to the global gag rule, prohibiting funding of any group that â€Å"promotes or advocates† legalization and practice of prostitution and sex trafficking† (Garrett 2017). Early into Obama’s First 100 days, President Obama rescinded it again. There is a pattern between liberal and conservative beliefs/actions and the Gag Rule. Garrett has noted that evidence from research shows increase abortion rates under the bill. However, abortions rates were significantly lower under Obama’s administration due to women having access to contraceptive options, sex education and most importantly the right to make decisions in reproductive planning. Recently, President Trump has announced his position on the Mexico City Policy and is leaning towards reinstating it, despite the statistics on increases in abortions it has had over time (Garrett 2017). Effects on the Black Woman and Community. Trump has switched his stance on abortion since announcing his run for president. In the short Novel The Stranger by Albert Camus we are introduced to a man who doesn’t believe in god and the first reaction then, as a reader, may be a brief attention to what may come to light to a character who comes to understand that there is no Divinity, no God, nothing. What happens when he realizes that his death is final? That his pleasures, his displeasures, and his sorrows are small bits to an existence of nothingness? What changes in his daily life of work/eat/love/sleep must he make? The Stranger tells the story of a man named Meursault, who lives for the physical pleasures in the moment, free of unwritten laws or societal pressures. Instead of obeying the social norms rules, Meursault tries to live as honestly as he can,†¦show more content†¦These â€Å"acts† of independence also represents a rebellion against any attempt to place boundaries on his life. Meursault also maintains the kind of ironic disinterest we would expect from someone would identify with the absurd. He prefers observing events going on around him, rather than getting directly involved; one chapter describes Meursault spending an entire day sitting on his balcony watching passers-by in the street, this is a prime example. Even when he becomes directly involved in events, he refuses to get too trapped up in them. When his â€Å" lover†, Marie, asks him to marry her, he tells her no and that he doesnt love her but it makes no difference to him if they get married or not. She is taken back by this statement and begins to question her own self. When he kills the Arab, there is a sense that he is not really there entirely, that he is not really doing what he is doing. It seems almost as if he is witnessing himself shooting the Arab rather than actually doing it. In his final upsurge to the chaplain in prison, Meursault reviews a great deal of his absurd worldviews, proclaiming that nothing really matters. That, no matter what, we all live and we all die. What we do before we die is ultimately irrelevant. After the chaplain leaves, Meursault enjoys a final moment of serenity: And I felt ready to live it all again too. Nel Cor Piu Non Mi Sento Free Essays

Nel Cor Piu Non Mi Sento Composed by: Giovanni Paisiello Nel cor piu non mi sento Brillar la gioventu; Cagion del mio tormento, Amor, sei colpa tu. Mi pizzichi, mi stuzzichi, Mi pungichi, mi mastichi; Che cosa e Questo ahime? Pieta, pieta, pieta! Amore e un certo che, Che disperar mi fa. Nel Cor Piu Non Mi Sento Giovanni Paisiello was the most popular comic composer of his time. We will write a custom essay sample on Nel Cor Piu Non Mi Sento or any similar topic only for you Order Now His operas (of which he is known to have composed 94) abound with melodies, the graceful beauty of which is still appreciated. His church music was very voluminous, composing of eight masses, besides many smaller works. He also produced 51 instrumental compositions and many detached pieces. As the eighteenth century operatic scene that surrounded and influenced Mozart emerged into clearer view, Giovanni Paisiello was recognized as one of its most significant shapers. He began composing opera as soon as he left the Conservatory of San Onofrio in Naples in 1763. In Naples, he soon became established as a popular local composer. He was noted for simplifying operatic style in the interests of getting more quickly to the plot and keeping it moving. His tendency towards concision was even greater strengthened when he accepted employment in the court of Catherine the Great of Russia in 1776. She demanded that productions in her theater last no more than an hour and a half. He strove to make his melodies more appealing, his orchestration more colorful, and make the music help illustrate the plot. This is clearly apparent in â€Å"Nel Cor Piu Non Mi Sento. This upbeat aria is one in which includes comic relief as well as a fast paced rhythm and mood. Well under two minutes, it is concise. Paisiello was known for his short compositions. This song does a great job of attracting people’s attention and keeping that attention, no matter how short or long the piece may be. â€Å"Nel Cor Piu Non Mi Sento† comes from â€Å"L’Amor contrastato, produced in Naples in 1789. It was performed throughout E urope for many, many years. In other cities, the opera was sometimes called different names. Nevertheless, this aria in general became immensely popular. Famous stars sang the elaborate piece, as Beethoven wrote piano variations of it. Audiences remembered â€Å"Nel Cor Piu Non Mi Sento† because it was simple. Also, it was repeated many times throughout the scene in the opera. It is sung by Rachelina, then by a tenor suitor, Colloandro, and the ending is repeated as a duet. Its short and quick rhythmic sound stuck in people’s minds in which contributed to the great success of this song. As for the character of this song, it is best shown through the actual character(s) it was written for. The scene of the opera takes place within Rachelina’s home in the countryside near Naples. Rachelina is described as â€Å"a rich mill-owner and imprudent in love. † In the scene, she is working; something that women in earlier operas seldom did. Sorrounding her I assume would be common items found within a home. I expect that she may be in her kitchen cleaning somewhere. As for what she wants, can be compared to what we all want. True love! Love has been driving her crazy and she does not feel as well as usual. She, like most of the world, does not understand how love can make us so crazy at times. Learning about a character that is already discovered and developed, it is almost easier to express emotion into this song. I believe this is because I am a woman and I can relate to how Rachelina is feeling. Also, I try to place myself in her shoes, and truly exert her emotions through my voice. It is a rewarding experience when you allow yourself to become another character. That’s what makes music so much fun! How to cite Nel Cor Piu Non Mi Sento, Essay examples

Audit Engagement Planning

Question: Discuss about the Audit Engagement Planning. Answer: 1. The steps that need to be considered before doing an audit is accepting the engagement of audit, planning the audit, performance the audit tests and reporting the findings. The auditor should consider the revenue, net book value, assets, liabilities, expense and other items of the financial statements. The documents should be arranged and evaluated such as previous reports of audit, ledger, receipts and bank statements. In order to plan for the audit, it is important to determine the information the contained in the documents and then planning how the audit should be conducted (Abbott, Parker and Peters, 2010). The auditor can gather information from an open meeting and then finalizing the audit plan. The tests of the auditors should comply with the accounting processes and procedures and internal control will help to evaluate that the procedure is adequate and appropriate. The auditor should consider the details of the findings of audit and the report includes posting issues, pay ments, mathematical errors and other concerns of audit. The auditor should evaluate the audit risks and assessing the performance of the audit. The processes of audit are similar for engagements and consist of four stages: planning, field work, audit report and the follow up review. The key objectives of audit process to minimize time and avoiding the disruption of ongoing activities (Buys, 2014). The revenue of the company shows $30 billion that ought to be comprised by the auditor in their financial statements, net present value of the property, plant and equipment is around $16.5 billion of AUD and other $ 5 billion AUD that would be desired in excess of after that seven years. All the values of items should be considered into the financial reports. The auditors should gather information on the processes, evaluating the existing controls and planning the remaining steps of audit. The auditors should gather the information and data in order to acquire the general review of the ope rations (Catty, 2012). The audit program will help to achieve the objectives of audit. The auditors play an important role in the preparation of the audit reports in the given fiscal year. 2. The inherent risk is the material misstatement risk in the financial statements that arises due to the omission and errors as the result of the factor other than failure of the controls. It is considered to be to be the higher where high degree of estimation and judgment is involved and where the transactions of the organization are complex highly. The control risks are risk of the material misstatement that arises in the financial statements due to the failure or absence of the control of the organization. Therefore, it is important for the organization to have internal controls in order to detect and prevent error or fraud (Chorafas, 2006). The control risks are high where an audit firm does have an adequate internal control in order to detect and prevent errors and fraud in the financial statements. The assessment of the control risk can be higher if a small organization in which the segregation of the duties are not define and financial statements that are prepared by an audit or who do not have adequate knowledge of finance and accounting. The detection risks are the risk that an auditor fails to detect the material misstatements in the financial statements. Therefore, it is important for the auditors to detect and prevent the material misstatements in financial statements of the company due to the error or fraud. The omission or misapplication of audit procedures can result in the material misstatement that remain undetected by auditors. The detection of risk is present sometimes dues to the limitation of audit (Henriques and Richardson, 2004). The detection of risks can be reduced or controlled by the auditors by increasing the sampled number of transactions for the detailed testing. The inherent risks of KGC limited in the PNG are around 80% and detection risk and control risk is around 50% and 10%. Therefore, the audit firm can accept the role of doing the audit of KGC limited in the PNG. The audit risk model can be used by auditors in order to manag e the risk of the audit engagement. The auditors should examine the control and inherent risks in order to reduce the risk of audit (Horngren and Harrison, 2007). The implementation of strategies will help to detect risk and control the risks within the organization. 3. The auditors should prepare the plan after selection of junior and senior staff allocating the tasks to them. The auditor includes all the procedure in the written form, the objectives of each department and the directions that to be given to staffs that helps to control the work and implementing programs into actions (Kessler, 2013). The audit program refers to detailed plan of work that includes the work time and procedure to do the work. The audit program includes the following procedures: The audit program shows the procedures of audit The audit program measures the time to complete the task of audit The staff members prepare the audit program on the basis of the nature of the business The general accepted points are to be included in audit program The audit program helps to control and guide the junior staffs. The points that should be included in the audit program are as follows: Detailed information of the works like cash/bank book, sales book, purchase book etc. The auditors prepares the audit programs considering the nature of the client The list of the assigned work should be prepared by auditor The audit program must fix the period of time in order to complete the tasks The assistant must sign after completion of job The items that are mentioned above are as follows:- The revenues seem to be $30 billion AUD and the other $5 billion AUD for the next seven years for the purpose of the creation of the ore preserves. The NBV cost of the PPE is the $16.5 billion AUD and the other $5 billion AUD is required for the creation of h values for the next seven years. There lay no prospects regarding the supplementary funds of the ores and thus it also helps in the creation of the current license. Thus it also helps in expiring the PNG government in order to expire the mines in the regions for the various eight years (Kortleve, Nijman and Ponds, 2006). The KGC limited consists of the full time employees of about 3,400 full time employees that seem to be very much exciting in nature and thus it also facilitates the PNG citizens to be employed and also can create their residents in the star mountains. The labor participation range is seemed to be 32 % and the unemployment rate is seemed to be 45% and thus the labor participation is not interested in the field of the working in the process of the mining of the ores. The KGC carries out the PNG operations with dealing with the land owners of the area and thus it is able to establish the mining operations which seem to be paid $4 billion for the royal ties and thus the operations can be carried with the proper establishment of the graded schools, hospitals, water processing plants and the health design centers in the mountains (Larrn Jorge, Andrades Pea and Muriel de los Reyes, 2015). 4. The fair market cost of the PPE should be presented in the financial statements. The auditor should estimate the fair value of the assets on the basis of amount received from the sale of the assets in the transaction amid the market participants at amount date. Therefore, to measure the fair value of PPE an auditor should take into account the main characteristics of liability or assets and assuming that the assets is exchanged in the transaction at measurement under the market condition (Lehane, Fabiani and Guttentag, 2012). The auditor should use the valuation techniques and methods in order to measure the fair value of PPE. The main concern is to evaluate the fair market value of the assets. The financial statements should includes the liabilities and assets that to be measured at fair value on non recurring or recurring basis in financial position statement subsequent to the preliminary gratitude, the inputs and the estimation techniques that should be used. 5. The future that can be focused is the environmental aspects that are created for the determination of the aspects for the proper creation of the settings in the star mountains and thus due to the ore mining process, all the sludge with the proper processing and pipe lined to the sea water. Due to this the creation of the pollution takes place and hence, due to this the health issues arise (Ma, Masters and Mancinelli, 2015). The water gets contaminated and environmental groups of Australia have concluded that the sludge is polluting the waters and hence the waters are also getting contaminated. This leads to the several health issues. Thus the future prospects determine the issues and also the company KGC limited ties to mitigate the issues for the future safety creation and the proper development of the safety in the environment. The future prospects also enhances the future safety and the enhancement that helps the company KGC limited to develop and also helps in the creation of the more values in the market. The employment increment also determines the increment of the production processing of the ores for the creation of the increment of the product and thus it also enhances the events and the circumstances that can be enhanced for the future prospects of life line of the company KGC limited (Machado, 2014). The costs are also decided for the remediating of the sludge spills and thus, it also helps in the creation of the safety environment with the proper processing of the operations for KGC limited. 6. The triple bottom line theory can be described as the reporting system that is utilized by Karrick Gold and Copper Limited. This is a business accounting strategy that is implemented in order to promote the information which is to be provided to the stockholders of the company. The triple bottom line is a theory that is dissimilar from the traditional accounting systems. With the triple bottom line theory, the influence of the organization on the surroundings is determined. There are primarily three principles of triple bottom theory (Masters-Stout, Costigan and Lovata, 2008). These are individuals, plant and benefit. This can be explained as the intentional push to financial, ecological and social contemplation in the organizations assessment and fundamental leadership form. This type of reporting assists in building up a standard buy that a firm needs to work to focus on the average effect of their activities in case of both positive and negative sense inside the company (McCamb ridge, 2015). The KGC Ltds triple bottom procession concentrates on the interest of the societal and the ecological contention among the group of companies. At the time of resuming data on KGC Ltd Company influence an issue that is impacting the supportability. There will probabilities of the development of both positive and negative matters. The reporting of triple bottom line is consolidated signifying the fact that the business is continuing in best ways beside the range of requirement is altered. Reporting the specific lines illustrate a drive towards extended and straight forwardness which can be medium by models of shrouded information. Because Karrick Gold and Copper is applying triple bottom line theory that is includes extra reporting, the organization needs to mingle excess data in the reports which are better presented to the partners (McKee, Garner and McKee, 2002). The specific data should necessarily be reassessed repeatedly in the attempt to assure the fact that the e xtra representative needs to have extra binding techniques after taking the end goal into consideration. 7. KGC Ltd is hoping to raise fun of $ 5 billion AUD by issuing share, which help the company to minimizing the risks of investment as the company want to share its obligation among the shareholder of the company and for this the company is agreed to share the profit of the company also among the shareholders (Metrejean and Noland, 2011). In order to raise fund from the investors and shareholders the management of the KGC Ltd specified that the companys PNG operation is the key asset of the company as well as the management described that the operation in PNG is very low risk and the company permanently will do the business operation over there in PNG. Now it can be observed that the operation of PNG is really a low cost profitable operation as there are plenty of human resources available there in much lower remuneration and human resources is the key aspects of the business operation (Milburn, 2008). Moreover, the skilled workforce with lower remuneration provide additional benefit s to the company, which lowering the costing of the operation and improve the profitability of the company thus ensure better return to the investors and shareholders of the company. The PNG operation is the key operation of the company (Raiborn and Watson, 2003). Moreover, from the operation the company earn substantial amount of money and the share of the company is lucrative for the investors and shareholders. However, it is also seen that the political condition of the PNG is not stable which is most essential for doing business operation as the unstable political situation of a country can hamper the busters operation within the country (Stittle and Wearing, 2008). Besides this, it is also observed that the operation al activities of the KGC in PNG is doubtful as there are several environmental and social organization claim that the business organization is performing their business activities in most irresponsible way and raise protest against the company because it is observe d that in a modern fall down of a tailings pool deserted 5 million liters of ore-waste slush into a river from which two neighboring villages draw their consumption water, fish, hunt, harvest lotus root and water their taro root, yam and cassava crops (Smith, 2011). Generally the ore waste of the company use to be flushed into the ocean and for this several environmentalist protest against KGC that the company spoils the environmental balance and doing irresponsible activities in order to perform business activities. All these are goes against the company and the company is in a fuss, moreover, the company states that the PNG is their key asset however, after eight years the contract of extracting ore from the PNG mining will be expired and PNG cannot find any other option and its ore storage is also limited also will end in next seven years thus in this context investing in the share of KGC will not be a wise option and it has several risk thus investors should not invest in the sh are of KGC (Smith, 2011). MAS 608 Aircraft Accident Investigation Accident Investigation: Key Players and Their Recommendations For some time I have known that I don’t know everything. Granted, there was a time when I thought I did and I couldn’t be told wrong if you had the reference sitting in my face. Thankfully that has all changed. In life you begin to learn that there are people out there who know things you don’t and you start to realize that in some areas of life you might just need a helping hand. The same can be said on a bigger scale. When companies don’t have the resources to get something done, they get outside help. If there are problems with their efficiency, they hire an efficiency expert to come and look at the problem. When an aircraft accident is being investigated there are a lot of factors that come into play. This raises the need for many experts on many aspects. In this paper I intend to discuss aspects of a few key players in accident investigations, their recent recommendations for safety improvements, and what they can bring to the table to try and reduce the number of accident investigations that take place. The most prominent organizations dealing with accident investigation are the National Transportation and Safety Board (NTSB), the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), and the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). These are the three powerhouses’ associated with accident investigation and aviation safety. While each organization has its own regulations, most of their â€Å"inspiration† comes from the ICAO Annex 13 and the FAA regulation 8020.11b. Both documents lay groundwork on how to do an accident investigation. There are however smaller organizations and independent firms who do all the foot work. These are the people who gather data, analyze it, and make recommendations as well as those who help in ways that might not initially seem important. One of the big players in an accide...

Interview with Xiaochu of BenMo Public Relations Essay

Interview with Xiaochu of BenMo Public Relations - Essay Example Since I participated so actively in society, I was able to get a good idea of what society wants. I noticed that most PR companies did not seem to really be providing what the public actally wanted, they didn’t have that knowledge of the Chinese people that was necessary to make a true connection. Most of those foreign PR companies saw the potential in our country of almost 1.6 billion people and most of the time, and my idea was to adapt their professionalism and experience to provide a PR experience and service that was specifically tailored for our country .† Everyone knows PR. What we need here is something â€Å"by the people for the people† so to speak. I wanted to create a widespread, quintessentially Chinese central network, where a central figure was available whom the public could relate to and have access to. â€Å" I want my company to grow like a big tree and now, I am the seed. We have a long way to go.† X: You know, I have never really seen money as my main goal in any of the work that I have done or that I am doing. As I started my business, I never really bothered about how much money I made on an individual job, the only consideration I would bear in mind is how large a segment of the public I was able to gain access to, through my PR work. My theory was, â€Å"the bigger you get, the more jobs you get and the money will come naturally.† X: Well I have always believed in the strength of the word of mouth kind of advertising. â€Å"â€Å" Clients are our number 1 strategy in promotion of the BenMo. Word-of-mouth plays a central role of great influence, and clients are more likely to trust a friend or family member’s recommendation as opposed to an advertisement. X: Well, I would say the secret is knowledge of the media. As an ancient Chinese proverb says, you have to â€Å"know the inches† – in other words, deliver only the news you can support

Why starting a franchise is better than starting a new business Essay

Why starting a franchise is better than starting a new business - Essay Example As a matter of fact, there is a vast array of different available alternatives and opportunities such that it is often difficult to decide on the best plan to follow. After choosing the best path, one would require help starting the business, hence the need to appreciate the differences between starting a business and franchising opportunities, as well as choosing which plan is the most applicable (Bradach 99). Although franchising is similar to starting one’s own business in various aspects, these business initiatives are inherently quite dissimilar. This paper will examine the reasons why it is better to start a franchise rather than a new business. Broadly speaking, franchising refers to the means of operating a commercial operation through the use of certain elements or aspects of other businesses, for instance, its products, brand and name. Previously, this entailed licensing agreements where business operators had the right to sell certain products in certain markers, di stribution deals that work on the same basis or other form of agency agreement in which one runs part of a greater business. However, today, franchising refers to the granting of licenses to trade under similar names as the parent companies and to make use of all or most of the aspects, which make these businesses successful to enable one’s venture to strive. ... Such support, however, runs for the duration of the franchise agreement. The contract entails the franchisee agreeing to pay the franchisor for the privilege to use such support and business tools. In most instances, such payment is made upfront although the franchisee has to pay numerous staged payments as the business develops (Libava 81). However, it is evident that certain franchise agreements stipulate that franchisees have to make additional payments if the business grows to be exceedingly successful, but, in most cases, this amount is a regular flat rate. Although in most cases the startup cost of starting a franchise is quite large, this cost is substantially lower than the cost of starting the same business from scratch. Some of the most notable franchises include, among others, Subway, Hampton Hotels, 7-Eleven Inc, Anytime Fitness, Supercuts and McDonald’s and Pizza Hut Inc. These businesses are quite profitable and their brands are widely acclaimed all over the worl d. Starting such a business from scratch can cost quite a lot. However, franchising allows business owners to pay low costs in order to start these businesses. For instance, in order to start franchises such as McDonald’s, one only requires between $1.07 million and $1.89 million, to start a Subway franchise one needs between $85,200 and $260,350. On the other hand, in order to start a Hampton Hotel franchise, one must pay the franchisor between $3.7 million and $13.52 million. These figures go to show that starting a franchise is way cheaper than establishing such a massive company. Perhaps one of the most attractive aspects of franchising is the reduction of risk. The business is not essentially a new

Porter Five Forces 3.1.1 Threat of New Entrants: There is big number of food companies in the world; meanwhile the competitive between food companies are happened. Some companies have carved out role in which they support to dairy supply. These food companies are fearful of being squeezed out by the big players. Another threat for many food companies is other food services companies entering the market.15 Competing in a new industry requires resources to invest. Production of packed products requires huge investment of financial, human, technical, and marketing resources. Bargaining Power of Suppliers: The suppliers of food might not pose a big threat, because of the number of suppliers. Raw milk is standard commodity and is available in the open market from a large number of milkmen. If anyone refuses to sell its product then company can buy it from others who are already willing to sell to company. On the other hand, the importance of volume to supplier also considered as a threat. Suppliers also have less leverage to bargain over price because the company is purchasing the large volume of their milk and suppliers dont have much option to sell milk to others. Bargaining Power of Buyers   The buyers will not post much of a threat to the food industry. Large clients have their own bargaining power with food companies. Large corporate clients like airlines and retailers pay millions of dollars a year. There are large numbers of distributors, who are buying and distributing the product, so their bargaining power is low and company have leverage to dictate implement its terms and conditions to distributors. Availability of Substitute   There are few of substitutes in the food industry. Most of the food companies have similar suites of services. Companies focusing on their role usually have a competitive advantage, but this advantage depends on whether there are any barriers that preventing other firms from entering.15 Competitive Rivalry The food industry is highly competitive in nowadays. As a result, food industry has become more like a commodity, an area in which the food company with the low cost structure, greater efficiency and better customer service will beat out competitors. In long run, larger companies prefer to take over or merge with other companies rather than spend the money to market and advertise to people.15 Source of Cost Efficiency 3.2.1 Economy of scale Economy of scale determines cost efficiency based on time, and processing of the operations and labour cost. Nestlà © used new high-technology system machines to process all the products, like high-speed bottling system, packaging machine for increasing the output of the products so, it could save time of the operation in process, and save labour cost. Characterization of Scully in Tim Winton’s The Riders Essay -- Tim Win

The Characterization of Scully in Tim Winton’s The Riders  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   One of the most endearing aspects of The Riders is the clever characterization. This allows the reader to relate to the typical national stereotypes and yet very extravagant personalities portrayed in the novel. The characterization, together with Winton’s considerable skill at using the characters’ view to evoke a sense of place, are two of the strengths of The Riders. The character of Fred Scully, the ‘hero’ of The Riders, is one of the most wonderfully written characters to have come out of Winton’s writing so far. Scully’s character encompasses all the traditional traits of the Australian: his use of vernacular, appearance, humor, as well as the outlook and many more. Winton has the reader accompany Scully in his desperate struggle through Europe and it is Scully’s personality that the reader finds themselves enjoying more than the sightseeing trip. "...Scully [is] one of the most memorable characters in Australian fiction." Scully is memorable because his traits could be found in someone known by the reader; he could easily be the ‘man next door’. The beauty of Scully is that Winton has allowed for the character to evolve, and he has adapted along with his character. At the beginning of the novel Scully is the "...big friendly shambles of a man who followed them like an ugly hound, loyal and indestructible..." yet not long after Scully is seen as "...sheepish like a lamb unto the slaughter...". These changes which occur in the character of Scully fit into the structure and plot of The Riders. Before the disappearance of Jennifer, Scully was a ruggedly handsome optimist, content to wait out the bad times, yet after the trauma of loss and heartache, ... ... is based around the idea that Scully is an emotional person, one who considers the needs of others. Scully follows Jennifer because of the baby. Yet he does not pursue Connor Keneally, because he understands that it would not be right, no matter how much he feels that he wants to. Tim Winton’s Scully is a very memorable Australian character. His connection with the reader enables them to enjoy his individual humour, vernacular and his generally unsinkable optimism. Winton’s writing skills allow the reader to be drawn to Scully by the character’s particular outlook on situations. Scully once said "What you see is what you get". Within The Riders this is not necessarily so, Winton gives Scully much more than what is printed on the page and it is up to the reader’s discretion of how much they perceive. Work Cited Winton, Tim. Why A Good Sense Of Communication Is Important

While the student spends a lot Of their time in school, the student spends just as much mime, if not more, at home. It is important for the teacher and the parents or guardians to be on the same page and work as a team when it comes to behavior and academics. Another area where educators need good communication skills is in the school, as well as in the community. By communicating with all of the other teachers who will be involved in your students education (librarian, PEE teacher, computer teacher, etc. One can ensure that they know every aspect of that child's day, and can paint a clearer picture of how to educate that child in a more efficient way. Communities can also play a large role in a student's fife. By properly communicating with the community and keeping everyone informed of what is expected in the school, concerning both education and behavior, one can help make the learning experience more rounded. Including important members of the community in different lesson plans, and even career days can inspire and motivate a class. The last area that communication is vital is probably the most important. The communication between the student and the teacher is incredibly important. If the teacher and the educator don't communicate properly, the educator with have no way of knowing how to meet the student's needs. The teacher will also have no way of knowing if there is a problem within the class, or if a student Isn't learning properly or effectively.Without communication between the teacher and the student, learning and education is nearly pointless. In conclusions, communication is key in education. It is important for not only the families of the students to stay informed, but the student himself, the school, and the community as well.

Reasons behind bombing essays

Reasons behind bombing essays Reasons for use of Atomic Bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki by America........... Reason 1: Four years prior to use of the atomic weapons, the Japanese had fought viciously, ferociously and bravely and all up, were more more than America had bargained for. This had cost more than three hundred thousand American lives. The aim of the US Government was to finish the war with minimum casualties, as weighed to other matters, the cost on human lives was great. It was estimated by advisors of President Truman in 1945, that within the next two years, if the war continued, that the death toll of Americans would be at least a million. The explanation of Truman, a day after the bomb was dropped stated "...we have used it in order to save thousands and thousands of young Americans...". The Japanese had a further four million troops complimented by four thousand eight hundred kamikaze aircraft and pilots. The kamikaze pilots had had a great affect on American military, the planes sunk fifteen US vessels and damaged a further two hundred. To invade Japan was going to put a h uge strain on American budget, different means to winning the war was needed, the bomb...was the answer. Reason 2: Another reason for wanting to end the war so quickly was because of the Soviet Union. It was a known fact that a prolonged war with Japan would eventually involve USSR. This also meant that after the war, parts of Eastern Asia would be occupied by the Soviets. This theory was proved when the war in Europe ended in May 1945, the USSR was found to be in control of most of Eastern Europe. This gave them the stepping stones to spread communism which was feared by the Western World. If the war wasnt brought to an abrupt halt, it looked as if there would be war with the Soviets. Reason 3: The cost of the war was having a damaging effect on the world's economy. An estimate brought the cost of the war (globally) to approximately one trillion dollars. Millions and mil ...

World War 1, New Deal, and Woman in the 1900,1920s. and 1930s Essay

World War 1, New Deal, and Woman in the 1900,1920s. and 1930s - Essay Example Roosevelt, with the help of his closest advisers, nicknamed the Brain Trust, prepared the social program which included reforming of the administrative and partly judicial power, economic planning and legislative regulation of economic relations. He explained the main objective of the New Deal in a speech to the electorate – it was a more equitable distribution of wealth and goods. The new course was formed from a number of legislative and administrative measures. Some of them were expected to fight the current crisis and some to act long term. In general, they formed a new regulatory system of social and economic relations. The new policy can be divided into four major blocks: measures to stabilize the financial system; measures to improve the situation in production sector and agricultural industry; labor and social legislation. The New Deal economic policy was aimed at the recovery of the fully unbalanced banking and financial system. For this purpose, Congress passed the E mergency Banking Relief Act (March 9, 1933), which granted the President broad powers in the financial sector. All the accounts of banks in the country were blocked to audit them in detail. The President got the right to monitor international financial operations, to confiscate gold from private ownership. Exchange of bank notes for gold was stopped. The state started to control banks’ gold reserves. The government devalued the dollar (in January 1934 to 14%). The number of banks was reduced by one fifth. The government strictly limited the banks. The Glass-Steagall Act (1933) prohibited the banks from combining deposit and investment functions. State deposit insurance was introduced in all the banks (up to five thousand dollars). The National Industrial Recovery Act was passed on 16 June 1933 and is the most significant legislation of the New Deal. It was enacted to provide general welfare, fight poverty, improve cooperation between workers and employers, eliminate and solve labor disputes and destructive competition leading to lower profits and reduced investment. It introduced the so-called Codes of Fair Competition - the special guidance documents for branches of industry, which were formulated by entrepreneurs and sanctioned by the President. All antitrust laws temporarily ceased to be effective and the government could cartelize companies by force. The codes also contained the rules of pricing, production, sale of goods and terms of employment in the industry. The norms of minimum wage per hour and maximum working hours (44 hours) were set. That was the most fundamental turn in the history of legal regulation of the U.S. economy. The New Deal’s agricultural policy was embodied primarily in the Agricultural Adjustment Act. A special administrative authority was created to regulate agriculture and balance supply and demand for agricultural products, raise their prices. For this purpose, a uniform percentage acreage reduction was introduced al ong with the compensation for raw land, which was harmful for the small farms. At the same time large-scale commercial farms received most of the premium payments and could, thereby, intensify production and get a considerable profit. The federal social insurance programs were introduced. The Social Security Act of 1935, for the first time in the U.S., guaranteed unemployment benefits and old-age pension. The next step was to reduce unemployment and its negative effects. Those activities were supervised by the Federal Emergency Relief Administration. The National Labor Relations Act (1935) officially proclaimed, for the first time in U.S. history, the recognition of trade unions and also provided legal guarantees for these rights. Fair Labor Standards Act of

Eye-witness testimony Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1500 words

Eye-witness testimony - Essay Example According to these researchers, other types of circumstantial evidence, such as fingerprints or DNA, are more reliable in identifying criminals. This essay argues that eyewitness identification is not only can get the murder, but also it has unreliable. The heart of the American criminal justice system is the honesty and reliability of eyewitnesses. The testimony of eyewitnesses can very much influence the decision of the judge or the members of jury. The jury tries to identify the reliability or honesty of the eyewitness secretly, without telling the basis of its final decision. Considering the weakness of the human memory, therefore, is very crucial to the criminal and legal justice system, because a lot of trials are focused on honest identifications (Wise et al. 2). Reaching a fair decision and a right identification is hard without the chance that eyewitnesses may not know wrongness in their identification or testimony. Without strong physical evidence, testimony of eyewitnesses is important every time prosecution tries to prove that the criminal and the defendant are the same. The correctness of an eyewitness testimony or identification is shaped by two types of variables, which are ‘estimator’ and ‘system’ (Cutler & Kovera 54). System variables are things that the criminal justice system can control, like directions taught to eyewitnesses before they go into a lineup. Estimator variables, on the other hand, are things that the criminal justice system cannot control and their effects can be studied. These variables could be the lightning in the place where the crime took place, how long the eyewitnesses saw the face of the criminal, and so on (Cutler & Kovera 54). But, still, eyewitnesses cannot be sure that their memory is right. Researchers say that weaknesses of the human memory negatively affect the truth of eyewitness testimony. Human memory is very hard to understand and study. Eyewitnesses can have a

The Strategic Management Process of a Major Apparel and Denim Brand, Levi Strauss - Case Study Example In this paper, the case of â€Å"Levi Strauss- The Boss and the Yogi† as published in the Economist in the year 2014 is analyzed through the application of relevant business and corporate strategy models with the aim of identifying the current strategic position of the brand, understanding the core and contemporary strategies taken up by the company in the recent years, identifying the success of the employment of the new strategies and finally for recommending a suitable future strategic direction for the company. Levi Strauss uses the generic strategies of cost leadership and cost focus in which the company is trying to reduce the overall expense of the business by developing more efficient logistics and procurement systems in their global operations, trying to increase the profit levels by decreasing the operating costs while at the same time maintaining the product prices as per the industry standard. The company is also using the cost focus strategy to ensure that it can leverage on the customer sentiments associated with the brand and maintain the high prices of the products while at the same time remaining sufficiently competitive in the markets of operation. The intensity of competitive rivalry: The intensity of competitive rivalry is extremely high for Levi Strauss. Over the last few years, both the revenues and profits of the company have dropped by considerable extents due to the high degree of competiveness in the industry and the internal weaknesses of the company itself. Currently, the company is experiencing a declining market share in the American as well as global denim markets. The shares of the company have decreased from 7.2% to 5.3% in the period from 2004 to 2013. The threat of new entrants: The threat of new entrants is medium for Levi Strauss. This is because  there are many established big and small players in the denim market which create high entry barriers for a new player in the market. Also, this market is so intensely con centrated that there is hardly any market gap left for a new company to enter into and position itself.

Ap Language and Composition Synthesis Essay Example for Free

Ap Language and Composition Synthesis Essay Society teaches the morally incorrect and socially unacceptable aspects of murder. George Orwell’s â€Å"Shooting and Elephant† and Foster the People’s â€Å"Pumped up Kicks† address the contrary, the instances in which society leads one to murder. Orwell’s switch from first to second person within â€Å"He wears a mask, and his face grows to fit it† reveals the distance that the murderer puts between himself and his action creating a sense of personal distain; the same sense of detachment is evoked through Foster the People’s dreamily synthesized lyrics. The short clauses without conjunctions â€Å"In an instant, in too short a time, one would have thought, even for the bullet to get there† increases the pace just as the murderous act occurs intensifies the guilt suddenly felt. On the contrary, as the chorus begins in â€Å"Pumped up Kicks† the music picks up pace with a lighter music layered over the heavy down beat evokes a sense of relief that that the murder will bring after society drove the murderer insane. Both Orwell and Foster the People address varying situations in which murder must occur through their written and melodic choices. Part 2Jonathan Swift’s â€Å"A Modest Proposal† and George Orwell â€Å"Shooting an Elephant† offer a satirical view of British Imperialism. Orwell openly mocks the British control of Burma through â€Å"I was all for the Burmese and all against their oppressors, the British† which ironically reveals the disapproval of the governing body even by those that it employs. Swift’s absurd suggestion â€Å"that a young healthy child well nursed at a year old a most delicious, nourishing, and wholesome food† casts light upon the horrible treatment the Irish receive from the British while the radical suggestion parallels the extensive poverty Ireland experienced. Likewise, the thought of â€Å"shooting an elephant† develops a ridiculous idea about allowing death; the awkwardly large size of an elephant criticizes the outrageous living conditions within Burma. Orwell describes the elephant as â€Å"He took not the slightest notice of the crowd’s approach† which symbolizes the blind eye the British turned to the people of Burma. Similarly, Swift justifies babies as being good food for landlords because â€Å"they have already devoured most of the parents† relating the wealthy to cannibals because of their lack of humanity toward the poor. However, Orwell directly develops empathy toward the natives of Burma stating â€Å"It was perfectly clear what I ought to do† relating to shooting the elephant to please the people and gain acceptance. Swift’s constant sarcasm does not pity the poor, but it criticizes the British for allowing their way of life. Orwell’s narrative and Swift’s sarcastic essay critique the British government’s inability to uphold moral laws and just treatment for all people.

Ian McEwans Enduring Love Essay -- Ian McEwan Enduring Love Essays

Ian McEwan's Enduring Love Evident throughout the entire plot of ‘Enduring Love’, Ian McEwan fuses three different genres: love story, detective story and thriller. Each genre I believe has a set of expectations that captures the reader urging them to read on, for example a thriller genre would stereotypically be led by a fast, tense pace with characters easily identifiable as ‘goodies’ and ‘baddies’. Different, fresh and ‘novel’ McEwan establishes his break up of typical genres as he mixes the elements of the three main genres and purposely doesn’t stick to their rigid framework that many authors swear by. It is however important to assess to what extent that McEwan successfully combines these genres and how effective his method is. During the exposition of ‘Enduring Love’, McEwan attempts to â€Å"entice the reader into making that commitment† creating an â€Å"addictive quality† which I believe he does so by incorporating several stylistic devices, flowing from one to the other throughout the entire of the first chapter. Focusing particularly on the action of the event Joe is describing, McEwan incorporates parts of the romance genre and the detective story, switching from one to the other frequently. â€Å"We set off down our path arm in arm†¦the warmth and tranquillity in her voice†, Concentrating on the ‘romance’ genre, McEwan allows the reader to feel a connection with Joe as we are made aware of his emotions for Clarissa. Exploring different themes of love, we become acquainted with Clarissa’s love of Keats poetry, â€Å"Clarissa’s interest in these hypothetical letters had something to do with our own situation† and the love for others surrounding Joe at the station â€Å"it was smiles and hugs, and in thirty-five m... ...he is telling her. â€Å"Don’t get angry with me, Joe. You didn’t see his face, and he wasn’t in the square†. To conclude, I believe that it is correct to state that â€Å"Enduring Love gracefully bridges genres†, as McEwan intervenes from one genre to another successfully without a break up in the plot. The only exception of this is, I believe is the chapter in which the ‘thriller’ genre is introduced as I believe that it is out of character for Joe to go such an extreme and this is the only part of the book that I felt I was not a part of, as McEwan failed to engage me fully with the lack of realism. It could however be argued that this was McEwan’s intention to alienate this chapter to depict the message that it is possible for anyone, however radical and intelligent to take such extreme actions under the ‘given circumstances’ and the pressures that Joe faced. A Mat Rempit is a Malaysian term

A Mat Rempit is a Malaysian term for â€Å"an individual who participates in illegal street racing†, usually involving underbone motorcycles (colloquially known as Kapcai) or scooters. Not all Mat Rempits are involved in street racing; some of them perform crazy stunts for fun, such as the wheelie, superman (lying flat on the seat), wikang, and scorpion (standing on the seat with one leg during a wheelie),or shuttu le katti. Mat Rempits usually travel in groups and race in bustling city centres on weekend nights. In recent times, Mat Rempits have been linked to gangsterism, gang robbery,[1][2] street fighting, assault,[3] vandalism, theft and bullying. Most motorcycles used by the Mat Rempits do not meet standard specifications, or have been modified extensively for greater speed, or just to make the exhaust noisier. Additionally, some Mat Rempits do not have valid motorcycle licenses, do not pay road taxes, and ride stolen motorcycles. [4][5] A growing number of housing estate s have also been turned into racing tracks. 6] It is estimated that there are about 200,000 Mat Rempits in Malaysia. [7] In some other countries, the term Mat Rempit is also used, but more to refer to one as a motorcycle lover or rider (Mat Motor), as opposed to an illegal motorcycle racer. Sometimes, the term â€Å"Mat Rempit† is misused to refer to any individual who rides an underbone motorcycle. Related to this is the Mat Konvoi, which claim to be the non-racing version of Mat Rempit.
